
Dr. Eugene F. Fama is “the father of modern finance”. His research is well known in both the academic and investment communities.

He was born in Boston, Massachusetts, the son of Angelina and Francis Fama. All of his grandparents were immigrants from Italy.
He is an American economist. he is best known for his work on portfolio theory, asset pricing and the efficient market hypothesis. He is now 83 years old.

His very famous PHD thesis was published in the journal of Business in January 1965 & and in 1968 in institutional investor, it was entitled “the behavior of stock market prices”. It was later rewritten into an article that was less technical than walks in the stock market price. The PHD thesis caused people to see him as the person with voice of authority for the efficient market hypothesis.
In 1970 he proposed two concepts being used on efficient market.
In 2013 he got Nobel Memorial Prize in Economics.
In 2005 he got deutsche bank prize in financial economics.
In recent years, Fama has become controversial again, for a series of papers, co-written with Kenneth French, that challenges the validity of capital asset pricing model, which post that a stock’s beta alone should explain it’s average return. This paper describes two factors
1) market capitalization
2)relative price
